Mechanical Rubber Recycling – Sustainable Recovery of Valuable Raw Materials
The Environmentally Friendly Solution for Rubber Recovery

Rubber is a versatile material used in numerous products such as tires, conveyor belts, seals, rubber mats, hoses, and technical molded parts. However, these products do not have to be disposed of after their useful life. Through mechanical rubber recycling, high-quality raw materials can be recovered and reused in industry.

Mechanical recycling is a key component of a modern circular economy. It conserves natural resources, reduces waste volumes, and lowers the demand for new raw materials. At the same time, CO₂ emissions are reduced, and valuable materials are kept in the economic cycle long-term.

What is mechanical rubber recycling?

In mechanical rubber recycling, rubber waste is processed exclusively by physical and mechanical methods. Unlike chemical or thermal recycling processes, there is no combustion and no chemical alteration of the material. The goal is to recover high-quality recycled raw materials from used rubber products.

Depending on the input material, the following can be processed:

  • Production waste from the rubber industry
  • Rubber molded parts
  • Seals
  • Conveyor belts
  • Rubber mats
  • Hoses
  • Elastomers
  • Rubber residues from industrial manufacturing processes
  • other technical rubber products

Modern processing technologies produce high-quality rubber granulates or rubber powders that can be reused for numerous applications.

How does mechanical rubber recycling work?

The recycling process consists of several coordinated steps. The aim is to process the material as purely as possible and reliably remove impurities.

1. Material Acceptance and Sorting

Initially, the delivered rubber waste is inspected and sorted by material type, size, and composition. Careful pre-sorting forms the basis for consistently high quality of the subsequent recycled products.

2. Pre-shredding

Subsequently, the rubber parts are shredded into manageable pieces in powerful shredders. This step facilitates further processing and increases the efficiency of subsequent treatment.

3. Fine Shredding

In several granulation and grinding stages, the material is gradually reduced to the desired particle size. Depending on customer requirements, rubber granulates or fine rubber powders with precisely defined particle sizes are produced.

4. Separation of Foreign Materials

Many rubber products contain metals, textiles, or other foreign materials. These components are reliably removed using modern separation technologies.

These include:

  • Magnetic separators for steel separation
  • Air classifiers for removing light components
  • Screening technology for classifying different particle sizes
  • Sensor and sorting technology for particularly high material purity

The result is a high-quality recycled raw material with consistent quality.

What products are created from rubber recycling?

Mechanical rubber recycling produces high-quality secondary raw materials that are used in numerous industries.

Rubber Granulate

Rubber granulate is suitable for, among other things:

  • Sports and running track surfaces
  • Fall protection systems
  • Playgrounds
  • Artificial turf systems
  • Rubber mats
  • Sound insulation products
  • Vibration dampers
  • Elastic floor coverings
  • Technical rubber products

Rubber Powder

Particularly fine rubber powders are used, for example, for:

  • new rubber compounds
  • sealing materials
  • plastic and rubber composite materials
  • asphalt modification
  • industrial special applications

By reusing these materials, valuable primary raw materials are replaced, and natural resources are sustainably conserved.

Advantages of mechanical rubber recycling

Mechanical rubber recycling offers numerous ecological and economic advantages.

Resource Conservation

Rubber recycling reduces the consumption of new raw materials and supports a sustainable circular economy.

Environmental and Climate Protection

Recycling significantly lowers energy consumption and CO₂ emissions compared to manufacturing new materials.

High Material Quality

Modern recycling plants produce high-quality rubber granulates and rubber powders with consistently high quality and defined properties.

Cost-effectiveness

Secondary raw materials represent a cost-effective alternative to primary materials and simultaneously make an important contribution to sustainability.

Diverse Application Possibilities

The recovered raw materials are used in numerous industries and enable the production of high-quality recycled products.

Sustainability through Modern Recycling Technology

Mechanical rubber recycling is an essential part of a sustainable raw material economy. Innovative recycling plants enable the efficient processing of various rubber wastes and create high-quality secondary raw materials for new applications.

By returning materials to the production cycle, natural resources are conserved, waste is reduced, and the environment is sustainably relieved. Companies simultaneously benefit from high-quality recycled raw materials and an improved environmental balance.
